Rent control measures are adopted nationally.

Congress authorizes creation of the Office of Price Administration to set maximum prices for goods and services, including rents, and passes the Federal Defense Production Act, which imposes rent controls in Boston and other cities with severe housing shortage. The controls remain in effect until July 31, 1953.* The rent control measures are subsequently extended to 1953.*
